STTs: I\'m missing pushes, and second guessing every move.
I just started playing on Poker Stars. According to Sharkscope my ROI is 5% after approx 550 STTs (I know - not much of a sample size). And this doesn't bother me in the least. However, recently I'm questioning my play because I think I'm making some mistakes and taking wayyy too many thirds.
1.) Does everyone shove this hand? $27 STT - Blinds 200/400 antes 25 BB 897 SB 4957 Hero 3615 UTG 4031 UTG folds, Hero T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] As for reads, SB hasn't done anything out of the ordinary and it would make sense for BB to have a huge range here, right? ----------------------- 2.) What's your line? $27 STT - Blinds 75/150 HERO 1900 SB 2400 BUTTON 3500 CO 2000 UTG 4200 Hero is dealt A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] UTG raises to 450, fold, fold, Button calls, HERO? Nothing fancy from anyone thus far... ------------------------------ 3.) An observation: On a $16 table I played against a player that 10-12 tables with a Sharkscope ROI of 15% after a bajillion tournies. He raised from UTG+2 (full table), second level w/ ATo? In fact, BB was very short and was basically forced to call. Am I too tight? Unless I'm CO or the button or it's late game I'm not thinking of playing this hand from so early. |

Re: STTs: I\'m missing pushes, and second guessing every move.
The first hand I would fold, BB is calling with any two and T8o isn't great against that range. Plus the SB may actually have a hand.
Second hand I would push. 5 handed AJs is pretty good, the button's cold call is dead money, and UTG can be 3x raising a wide-ish range. UTG will be getting a little bit less than 2:1 so i think you have some fold equity. |

1) easy fold
2) fold, dont know about AQs. 3) just fold ATo this early. |

Fold and fold. First hand you have a weak hand, have a nice stack and there's a big chance shortie will bust very soon. In the second hand, you have to respect that the raise is from UTG

Both of these look like pretty easy folds to me. This is assuming your "nothing fancy" comment means utg hasn't been too aggressive/raising a ton of pots with his big stack.

[/ QUOTE ] I wouldn't look too much into this. A player can make some loose raises like this and still be a substantial winner as long has he doesn't overplay his hand postflop. It probably isn't a good raise, but if the rest of his game is good this isn't a play that is going to cost him a lot of money. |
