Well raising has to be wrong, and folding is silly. Hmm what were the options again?

Ok, this is my first post so be kind.
You've raised a standard 4x bb not necessarily from a steal position. Nothing wrong with that. He reraised a standard amount. By calling, you've indicated your hand has some sort of strength. The bet on the flop fits the definition of a continuation bet; however, a tight player could possibly have anything from AA-JJ, or AK-AJ. Calling on the flop and seeing what he does on the turn isn't a bad option. Folding isn't bad either; however, I'd lean toward the call. By calling on the flop, you've indicated your hand has some sort of strength; probably a pair or better or possibly AK. You could be slowplaying a set for all he knows. An average 800NL player could pick this up. Still, we might have different definitions of average. A bet on a blank on the turn indicates you should fold. By betting 300 on the turn, he's committed almost 600 into a pot. You've got 800 pf, so by simply calling on the turn, you're both pretty much pot committed. Once again, it seems like an average 800NL player could pick this up. As you've shown an indication that you like your hand, combined with possibility of pot commitment, I would now be putting him on either AA or JJ. I'd have to lay that down. If he has trash, then he's made a courageous play for his whole stack. Any thoughts? |
