This poll is stupid. Both are used for different purposes. They are not the same.

Dude.

Look them up in the dictionary. Two completely different words.

edit: in fairness, i now realize that common usage tends to treat them as interchangeable.

Dictionary.com: Notice the part "farther or further"
Merriam-Webster: Notice the same thing

strictly speaking, Ya RLY. but like i said in my edit, i do acknowledge that these words now tend to be treated interchangeably.

however, in the strictest sense, farther is meant to relate to physical distance while further is meant to relate to temporal distance.

The worst dictionary in the universe.

Anyone who wants to do themselves a favor should never, ever, EVER use this dictionary except for a very rough idea of what a word means. Usage is AWFUL, definitions are often perfunctory if not half-arsed.

Citing dictionary.com should be a bannable offense; failing that, it should at least be recognized as a code for surrendering an argument.

Holy crap or Good Lord, or whatever -- what is this nation coming to?

I look forward to Nintendo's ventures into the language and grammar fields.
