Any way to merge PT databases?
Is there any way to merge PT databases?
I've asked in the PT forums already and Pat said there was no such function in PT. But is there any easy-to-use function in "Access" or "SQL" to merge databases? thanks |

Re: Any way to merge PT databases?
It is possible... but it is quite complicated. I would recommend it only if all of the following are true:
- you have substantial database knowledge and experience - both of the DB's in question are quite large or you no longer have access to the hand histories in text format - you WILL perform backups before you start and probably at various stages during the process There are many steps involved. I've never actually done it but have worked out how to do it. In the end... it probably isn't any faster! LOL G'luck all, LVGamb00ler |

Re: Any way to merge PT databases?
Points 2 and 3 are true. In regards to point 2 I've accidently deleted my hhbd.mdb file :-/.
Point 1 on the other hand is a bummer. I have no knowledge and no experience about databases. Unfortunatly. If you have a dummies guide written up then I'd love to give it a try. But it sounds like you don't. Maybe someone else does though :-) |

Re: Any way to merge PT databases?
I've merged databases once. It basically involved a work around where you export hands from a database to a file and import that file into the other database. Will take awhile, but eventually you get what you want.

Re: Any way to merge PT databases?
it's very easy but can be very time-consuming.
Just export all hand history text files(as long as you remembered to save them) to a folder on your desktop then import the hands into your main database. This can take days if you are importing alot of hands. I merged a 3Million hand Stars database into another one about the same size for a 6Million hand db. |

Re: Any way to merge PT databases?
Thanks for the advice. I appreciate them. But unfortunatly they don't work in my case. My dataases only contain stats and no hands :-(.
A PT Acess database consists of two parts. The "stat" partin hhmd.mdb and the "hand" part in ptrackx.mdb... unfortunatly I accidently removed the hand part :-/ |

Re: Any way to merge PT databases?
I also did this. Mine took about ten or twelve hours with 2G of memory.
I had about 10K 100 hand files which totaled about 1G in size. It is recommended on the PT forum to import the hands in batches (I did 2K at a time) and do a vacuum/analyze on the DB after each import. Also, do not do an auto-rate while importing. This can be done afterwards. |
