Proposition: Rick Rubin is the greatest producer ever
Yes, even moreso than George Martin.
Rubin has produced seminal works. From making poor artists good (Jay-Z - 99 Problems), to making good artists famous and excellent (Beastie Boys - Licensed To Ill) to making excellent artists legendary (Cash - American Recordings I-V), this guy has seen it all from AC/DC to Saul Williams and stopoffs along Timberlake and Neil Diamond. Wiki Article I contend that there is no greater record producer who has ever worked, nor is there likely to be ever who could match the prolific _ongoing_ career that Rubin has. The scale, range and talent of Rubin's work floors me each time I stop to think about it. Discuss. |

Re: Proposition: Rick Rubin is the greatest producer ever
Dre and RZA are great, yes, but they don't have nearly the range that Rubin has. The man can produce greatness in any genre. I have a hard time believing that Dre could've made better albums with Johnny Cash than Rubin did (although I'd like to listen to whatever they came up with).
