Quick Blackjack Question
Sorry if this is the wrong forum... just seems to get a lot more traffic than general gambling, and I figured it'd be helpful with all the Blackjack whores around here.
Anyways, I'm just wondering why you don't double down when you have 7 or 8, and the dealer's showing a bust card, like a 5 or 6.It seems that an overwhelming majority of the time, you're only taking one card anyways, so it seems like it would make sense to double the bet when you have an apparent advantage. Anyone? |

Choose rules for current casino/table and you get optimal strategy. |

Re: Quick Blackjack Question
Yep... I'e been using optimal strategy charts, but I was just wondering if anyone could explain why you don't double in those 4 particular spots. Intuitively, it seems like it would be +EV to double there.

Re: Quick Blackjack Question
Because it doesnīt matter how many times you take 1 or 2 cards more, but how many times after drawing those cards your hand wins in a "showdown". You donīt make enough good hands with 7 or 8 if the hand goes to a "showdown" like you do with 9, 10 or 11.
Dealer busts with 6 about 45% of time and with 5 about 36% time, so not THAT often. And when dealer doesnīt bust with these hands, itīs more usual 20 or 21 than 17-18. Thatīs why you donīt double on 7 or 8 in those spots. |

Re: Quick Blackjack Question
Awesome.
Thanks for the help.. I think I just started trying to think of ways to make InterCasino clear faster, and that was the only thing I could think of. |

"Well the guy who made this chart probably knows a lot more about the math/strategy behind Black-Jack than I do." I've always followed a good chart while playing BJ, every single hand exaclty as a chart says,('cept for [censored] mis-clicks) and I have done very well casino bonus whoring all-in-all. It's mindless easy money...chart says this, click that, next hand, chart says this, click that, next hand....blah blah blah. |

Re: Quick Blackjack Question
Here's something I've always wondered. Do you surrender two 8s against a 10 or are they supposed to be split?

Here's something I've always wondered. Do you surrender two 8s against a 10 or are they supposed to be split? [/ QUOTE ] Under typical online BJ rules, splitting has a slight edge. Some may consider this difference negligible, and may prefer surrendering to reduce risk of a big loss. The expected loss from splitting is ~-0.48. The expected loss from surrendering is -0.5. |
