The Wrestling Thread
I don't know if this has been done before but I'll give it a go. I am always entertained by the few wrestling threads we get on here and have noticed quite a few OOTers are wrestling fans.
So the question I have is what was the first thing that got you into wrestling? My earliest memory is Flair Vs Funk at the Clash of Champions in 1989. This is the first time I had ever seen someone use a table in a match even though it was thick and didn't break. Hope this inspires further comments. Peace, Justin "Wrestling isn't fake, it's just rigged." |

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Earliest memory is for no reason watching IRS on a Saturday Morning event, and then like 2 years later actually becoming a fan.

To see Texas wrestling on channel 29 (regular TV), was so much more intense than the AWA that I received in Minneapolis. I promptly subscribed to four different wresting mags to find out about the wrestling matches around the country. DUI |

Re: The Wrestling Thread
My earliest memories were in the early 90s i think the first wrestling i ever saw was WrestleMania IX outside at Caesar's when Hulk Hogan first came back with Brutus Beefcake and got screwed out of the tag titles and he came back later in the night after Yokozuna beat Bret Hart for the world title and beat Yokozuna for the title..A little off topic but it was said on the telecast that Hulk Hogan was beat up my the Million Dollar Man and thats why his face was messed up that night...Anyone know the real story?

Re: The Wrestling Thread
my dad has lots of great wrestling stories from back in the day. here's one:
he and his friend jerry were watching a wrestling match between Superstar and some other guy when Superstar started to get his ass kicked. Jerry stood up in the stands, yelled "SUPERSTAR NEEDS MY HELP" and tried to run down into the ring. He was chased around by security guards and never made it into the ring. |

Re: The Wrestling Thread
I spent summers down south when I was a kid and I got hooked on Ric Flair, Buzz Sawyer, Tommy Rich, Arn Anderson, Stan Hansen etc. All the tv matches were squashes but I still loved it. Buzz Sawyer in particular scared the crap out of me, he seemed way too out of control, much like Brian Pillman in later days.
Every once in a great while Andre would come in and beat like 3 guys at once. Jerry Lawler and Jim Cornette and Michael Hayes and Terry Gordy and my God it goes on and on. Then when I saw Superfly Jimmy Snuka jump off a cage onto Don Muraco I thought I was going to freak out. Unbelievable. By the standards of today, it was like jumping off the Sears Tower onto a guy. |
