Option to buy a hand in NL holdem
I am thinking of introducing a fun option to a NL holdem game.
I was thinking that it might be fun if ANY PLAYER could make a call on the river for TWICE the amount of the uncalled bet. Example...Player A bets $20 into a $40 pot on the river. Player B mucks, any player would have the option of calling for $40 and playing B's cards provided they hadn't seen them. It might be a fun option that kept people interested in hands they weren't playing. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether this would work. |

Re: Option to buy a hand in NL holdem
why would anyone pay to blind call a bet that the player who actually SAW the hand didn't think was worth half of what it will cost now?
the word nonsensical comes to mind... |

Re: Option to buy a hand in NL holdem
Only way this would be a good idea would be if you were positive the other opponent was on a pure bluff.
Might be more interesting to allow it if they fold on the turn they can buy back on the river for twice... that way if you put someone who mucked on a flush draw and it come through You are golden. |

Would people actually exercise this option? Your home game must be a goldmine for river value bets.

I could see exercising the option myself if a weak tight player folded AFTER SOME THOUGHT against a LAG, depending on the read of course.

Re: Option to buy a hand in NL holdem
I sure wouldn't like the option if I was player A.
For example, if I am heads up against a certain opponent, I might have a good read on him (for this hand and in general) and think I can bluff him out on the the river. However, there might be a tough player in the game who can read me perfectly and I only profit at the game by avoiding him. If he has the option to call my bluff against another guy, I am screwed. No, I don't like it at all. It just gives the good players another way to get the better of the weaker players. |

Why tinker with success? if you guys aren't having fun then change the games around or make it dealers choice or require blind straddles to build the pot. Don't penalize the player who has made the bet. |

Re: Option to buy a hand in NL holdem
In NL? Bad option for most people. Big bankroll gamblers will love it. People busted by folded hands won't be so happy.
You could try it at limit and see how it goes.... but I don't predict big things, unless your group is pretty crazy |

Re: Option to buy a hand in NL holdem
This is a pretty horrible idea. Who in their right mind would exercise this option?
