Hi,
I made a new account today, when I decided I really don't need one (my roommate and I use the same computer). So now, hours later, I restarted the computer and suddenly it prompts me to log-in. I have tried every password that I possibly could have 'registered' with, but none work on the standard "Administrator" account, nor on the new account. Can I work around this or am I doomed to reinstall Windows? Regards, |

XP passwords are case sensitive, could you have had the caps-lock on when you set the password?

Your roommate is screwing with you, hang him out the 5th story window by his toes till he fesses up and gives you the password.

Don't forget to try a blank password as well.
Otherwise, you'll likely need to risk running a password blanking utility (in the form of a bootable linux floppy). I've never ran into problems w/ the blanking utilities and have used them on roughly 50 different computers. However, I've had friends that tried this method multiple times and never got it to work. Just google for "forgot administrator password" to find this kind of utility and read the warnings. |

I've used this utility in the past with good success:
