Default Position Specific Basketball Skills

Hey guys,

I'm just doing an assignment at Uni and was wondering if I could get a little help from those with a knowledge in basketball.

All I need is a list of skills most important to each position (PF, C, SF, SG, PG). Things like a centre needs to be a good rebounder, etc. Just a handful for each position would be fine, and obviously some of the skills will overlap.

wikipedia's info seems very good and accurate. There are some exceptions to this, especially on uptempo teams like Phoenix. Actually the NBA may be moving in that direction, but generally you would be pretty safe with wikis info.

Thanks. Don't know why I didn't think to use wikipedia, but that's basically all the info I need.

Thanks again.

Just out of interest (don't get to see much NBA here in Australia), what are you referring to about Phoenix? How is their setup different from the traditional one?

Cue-Ball,

Phoenix plays a very fast-paced game that seems to marginalize slower, bigger players. As a consequence, they've posted the highest PPG in the league the last two years by a wide margin, an average which hasn't been seen in the league in 10+ years. Plus they're fun as hell to watch.

2 1/2 weeks until the NBA season starts. HOLLA!!!!1111ONE

Well Phoenix, and I suppose Dallas, don't run a traditional NBA style team, IMO at least. Both teams utilize "hybrid" type players. What I mean by that is that both teams like to have 5 players on the court capable of playing all 5 positions. This allows for less mismatches on defense and can lead to a very fast paced offensive team. So neither team has a Shaq or Wallace like center. Both teams have excellent ball handlers all around and good shooters. of course this style can be exploited, particularly if they are up against someone like Shaq.

Very interesting.

I have a little interest in the Bucks due to Bogut, and will try and catch a couple of games this season. Hopefully I will get to see a couple of Phoenix games aswell just to check it out.
