Re: Torre gone
LOL @ Yankees. If they don't have someone very good lined up, this is really dumb.

Re: Torre gone
I guess Steinbreener thinks Pinella will light a fire under their ass. Seems like a bad move to me, maybe Torre will find is way back to STL.

Re: Torre gone
Wow. ESPN got the information from the Daily News. I don't really believe this... as in I'm extremely suprised. Torre did bring them to the playoffs in 1996 and won it all. I can't see the Daily News allowing something like this to be on the front page if they did not feel it was 100% true.

Re: Torre gone
My father told me at the beginning of this year if the Yankees don't win, Torre is out and Lou is in. He said he just couldn't understand why Lou would not take a job anywhere else... unless it was because of this. On top of that Lou and George are good friends. He was right on all accounts.
I don't know how I feel about this. I love Joe Torre, I watched him guide my team to four championships. His management of the bullpen, however, irks me. I just loved his calm demeanor and leadership, but maybe it is time for him to go. This makes me very sad, but maybe Lou will help light a fire under these stars. I'll never forget the team I was at Yankee Stadium for a Tampa @ NY game and Lou came flying out of the dugout arguing a call, screaming at the ump. He was ejected immediately. As soon as he stepped out the entire crowd started chanting, "Louuuuu Louuuuu Louuuuu." He got a standing ovation the next day for old timers day. He has good energy and he is loved in New York. Let's see what happens. Like someone else said, unless Lou can pitch, he isn't the answer to the problems. But maybe he is part of a changing philosophy, who knows? |
