Email Poke Tournament: A 1 orbit challenge for bragging rights
Since so many of you cashed out I thought this would be a good time to do a little on line challenge.
Here are the rules. (and its going to be verbose so sue me) I will host 10 volunteers to play ten hands of poker through email. Positions will be randomly drawn and button will go to position 0 to start. Each player is given 15 bb to work with. For the sake of simplicity SB and BB are .5bb Each person will be given their card values via email. UTG will start the process sending me their play for the first hand. Each person in kind is given previous action and they have 24 hours to respond. Yes it will take a long time but where are we going?(If guys want to respond sooner so be it, but reponses after 24 hours will be considered lost connections and the person will have 2 all-ins for the entire tournament. The winner of course will be the person with the most money after 1 complete orbit around the table is done. When the person sends me the response to the action in front of them, it's important they document as much about what they did to come to their decision as possible. (poker stove numbers, metagame issues, hand ranges, pot odds, implied odds, whatever) After each hand I will post a summary of the pertinant information on the boards for discussion. And we can also do a play along on the boards as long as the players in the hands promise not to look into those threads. Its a learning exercise, I have read about this being done and seen synopsis of action and its a great learning tool teaching the proper techniques to use when making decisions. Any volunteers? |

Smurf, will this be rigged? where will you get the hands from?
I dont want to beat this idea down cos its a goot one, but I sense that there will be so many trivial decisions. Going orbits with brain-dead flop-preflop decisions is par for the course when cards run dead. ozi |

Don't worry ozi... I'll make your decisions all too hard. Smurf has promised me to let me know what you hold so I can mess with you. I suggest you move to my right.

Re: Email Poke Tournament: A 1 orbit challenge for bragging rights
Random hands work because we only have one orbit. I take a deck of cards at home and deal it out. If I get a hand with all junk I will probably just throw it out and redeal.
I might throw a 'special' in there I might not but if we get ten solid players here and they play their best 15 bb 1 orbit challenge, worse case scenario we get a battle of the blinds and we get into metagame issues. |

Re: Email Poke Tournament: A 1 orbit challenge for bragging rights
Sweet, old school, like when we used to play hands via IRC. And a hand where everybody folded preflop would take 10 days. "Where are we going?" Pretty much anywhere else.
[ QUOTE ] If I get a hand with all junk I will probably just throw it out and redeal. [/ QUOTE ] So you're going to deal, tell everybody their individual hands, and then play your own cards? I wonder who's going to win. [ QUOTE ] worse case scenario we get a battle of the blinds and we get into metagame issues. [/ QUOTE ] Metagame issues? You mean like, "One player at the table tapped into the WPT control-room feed and knows everybody's hole cards"? Maybe I'm missing something but I think you'd be much better off making a private table on Yahoo!, and letting people come in and kibitz. Much more learning to be had that way. |

I will play if you need players and have room. Feel free to deal me out if you are oversubscribed.

As an example I just dealt out cards and this is what I got
SB 82s BB AKo UTG 46o UTG+1 88 MP1J4o MP2 A10o MP3 34s MP4 67s CO Q7o Button QTo I am sure we are going to get some action if the hands are like this. |
