Default Nevada to vote on legalizing pot

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15127242/from/RS.5/

Interesting that religous leaders are behind it.

[ QUOTE ]
At least 33 members of the clergy have endorsed ballot Question 7 on the November election ballot, which if approved would make Nevada the first state in the nation to allow people 21 and older to legally possess small amounts of marijuana and purchase it at government regulated and state-taxed pot shops.

well with this, and the poker ban , looks like its time to pack up and move to lv

Though, in reality, how do these laws function? I always assumed that they had little to no effect because of the fact that federal law stated the marijuana was still *illegal*, and that took precedence over state law?

Can someone set me straight?

I doubt this will have any effect, much in the same way that "legalizing marijuana" in Denver had no effect.

Quite a bit different though as this is a state-wide legalization.

every state law regarding non-medical marijuana has been summarily ignored because of the overriding federal law, right?

Even though there will not be marijuana shops set up if it passes I think it has a big effect on legalization. It will make the news and show a lot of DARE brainwashed kids that marijuana is more than just its label of DRUG, and is actually really great. It's the beginnings of a paradigm shift in America.

Indeed so, but were marijuana legal, the retail price might decrease significantly.

So if I am correct, this would basically be a 100% tax, or something large.
