Fish and moving up
I have now played 40k hands at 200nl with a winrate of 5ptbb.
However, I am VERY uncertain if Im a winner against a TAG line up. Ie I have practised impeccable table selection and never played at a table without one 50+ VIP or two 40+. Now, should I move up to 400nl and keep playing like this or should I stop practising table selection at 200nl and try to outplay the "good" players. As of right now I am not 3-betting hands from the blinds which Im sure have an equity advantage vs a TAG stealers range since I really dont have to. The fish will give me their money eventually. I also will rarely call a 3-bet preflop without a really good hand unless a player 3-bets me VERY light. Like I fold 99 vs a somewhat light 3-better although its very exploitable to fold such a great hand when I open so many hands. Thoughts on this? I suck at poker yet I win money. Should I move up? |

Re: Fish and moving up
what are your goals? i play 200nl but will sit at a juicy 400 or 600 table when i see a good one. i'm happy to get better but in the meanwhile i'm content making money. if you are too, i don't see what's the problem

Re: Fish and moving up
My goal is to win absurd amounts of money. I cant do that at 200nl.

Re: Fish and moving up
You sound just like me when I moved up to 400nl. The first 10k hands I broke even but then after like 60k hands I was at a steady 5ptbb. 400nl is easy

Re: Fish and moving up
You asked me this in the last ssnl cheese thread and I answered it later, not sure if you saw it:
[ QUOTE ] At first I thought 400nl was like ridiculously hard with a ton of aggro players, but after a few thousand hands it just feels like any other level now. It’s harder than 200nl obviously, and I think the jump from 200 to 400 is probably harder than the jump from 100 to 200, but there are still big fish and regulars with big leaks. One thing I've noticed is that 400nl seems to be the level where table selection really starts to get important. While there were good and bad tables at 100/200nl, there weren't many tables where a decent player couldn't hold his own. But at 400nl some tables are full of 27/20 types who never let you open a pot and are real tough. Also some things that work at 100/200 just won’t work at 400, like limp/calling small pocket pairs UTG for example. There’s more of a need to isolate, like you’re on the button with KTo and CO limps, I used to limp with okay success at lower limits but it’s an automatic raise now. Plus you have to make sure not to just call LP raises from the CO/Button because a lot of TAGs in the blinds will squeeze with any two, which is something you don’t see much at lower limits. So yeah, it’s quite a bit different but it’s still beatable. Anyone else have anything to add? Re: Fish and moving up
recently moved up to 5 10, and this is the first level where theres almost no players with over 30 vpip. pretty uch every table is full of tags. that being said i feel its definitly beatable and im confident i will be a winner in this gam.

Re: Fish and moving up
I was not quite a 4PT/100BB winner over like 200k hands at 1/2 and moved up to 2/4 recently. So far 2/4 seems very much the same. I think my play has improved a lot recently though and I am probably on a bit of a heater so I may be results oriented at this point. I say give it a shot. (Btw my table selection is the same process)

Re: Fish and moving up
I just switched from playing Mid-High limit to nl. I have started at nl 400. So far my table selection has been to just waitlist the biggest pot sizes I can find. I don't have a ton of stats on players. What is the optimal method for table selection if you don't mind.
Thanks in advance |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, when lower stakes players think of a good table, they think of several 40-50+ VPIPs, or even higher. Actual calling stations. I think the higher you go the less of these huge fish there are, and you're going to actually have to LOOK for leaks in your opponents, and ADAPT properly. |
