Default Day Trading

Can anyone here just give the basics of day trading in terms a poker player can relate to?

Bankroll/risk of ruin/variance/expected return for a good trader

Is this kind of stuff known or knowable for a trader?

I have a feeling this month there may be a call for a forum seminar on "DayTrading for former US poker players"

Many of the same skills apply...

I expect this forum to soon be packed with these kind of questions...

Good luck to everyone considering this. I hope the business and finance forums both explode from the recent...problem.

Is there really money to be made in this? I'd think the black boxes developed by the big Ibanks and financial companies would take any profit out of the day trading market.

Micro,

IMO it's a far more difficult game with no small stakes tables to learn on.

Bankroll for equities, maybe $50k min. Risk of ruin, high. Variance depends heavily on your strategy. Expected return for good player: anything from scratching by to Dan Zanger returns (10k to 40M in 18 months during ibubble).

I've been dabbling for awhile in futures daytrading with mixed results. Can I expect to see the STT forum migrating over here now?

Has anyone in the finance forum heard of this newcomer -- www.zecco.com? They are pushing for zero commission trades. Now, that the doomsday is here I am seriously considering daytrading. I've had a little bit of experience in trading futures before I found 2+2. Hopefullly, I can make this forum my new home since I really don't want to depart from 2+2 and its community.

The SEC conducted a study of day traders during the internet bubble and claimed that 95% were busto within a year. Not sure what happened to the 5%. Were they lucky and went busto the following year? Or were they the skilled ones and have been knocking down big years ever since?

I have always wondered when they busto, they meaned blow out their accounts or lose because of the living expenses. If mostly the former that would be quite bad as they would just be degenerate gamblers.
