Response from Sen. Burr (NC)
I emailed my senators about gambling legislation some time ago. I haven't heard back from Dole, but today I received a (snail-mail) letter from Richard Burr. In his letter,
[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] He argues that Internet gambling is already illegal and refers to it as "illegal gambling" several times. [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] He is concerned about how accessible online gambling is. [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] He argues that it is not regulated and could be used to launder money. [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] He says he supports anti-gambling legislation. Not encouraging, but I am not surprised either. |

Re: Response from Sen. Burr (NC)
I got a response back from that bum ages ago. I figured that's the sort of response he'd give. He hasn't got a clue. Dole has never reponded, but I expected that from her. She has never replied to anything I've wrote about the entire time she's been in office.
Funny how the Republicans always say how they want government out of people's lives, yet they will try to do things like this. What a bunch of hypocrits. |

Re: Response from Sen. Burr (NC)
He forgot the part about "protecting the children." Must've been an oversight.
As far as accessibility goes---have any of these folks noticed what has been going on in the B&M industry the past several years? I live in the midwest, and twenty years ago, if someone here wanted to gamble, they had to get on a plane for Nevada or Atlantic City (or play home games.) Now, we can drive 90 miles down the road to tribal casinos, or 3 hours to riverboats. Can't exactly fall in the door every night after work, but if you have a hankering to gamble, the accessibility is much better than it used to be. And millions of people have much better access. And what the difference is between internet and B&M's I do not know. Ah...various states and localities get tax revenues from the B&M's, while the internet gaming industry is offshore and untaxable by US governmental bodies. And ultimately, it all boils down to that. The rest is posturing and soundbites. |
