Ok that is what he did and Im sure you guys are right but help me out and explain to me why that is a better play than calling considering my chip stack

Since you are BB if travesty shoves and is overcalled by either stack that covers him you can fold. If he calls however and there is a raise or shove you have to act first and he can act accordingly.

Was this intended to be subtle?

That's the argument for calling.. I'm trying to understand why shoving is a better play for TravesyFund

First of all you have the seats in the wrong order, didnt realize that small stack was in the BB. Since he's right after you in the list, looks as though hes on the button.
