Some encouraging news for a change .... ?

"International Game Technology (IGT) has gained approval from Nevada regulators for licensing allowing them to manufacture and operate mobile gambling systems. The slot machine maker and casino services provider is the second firm to be granted the license after the Gaming Commission voted unanimously to approve the company.'

As IGT goes, so goes Nevada's Congressional delegation, generally speaking.

I think what truepoker is reaching for is the fact that gaming companies are starting too see the available profits in mobile technology. Meaning if people can gamble because its more convient........they will. Now by association this would give more weight to the consideration study of internet gambling.

IGT is likely the largest maker of gaming devices for casinos in the world, certainly in the US.

IGT is Nevada-based and very influential politically. It also is very much in tune with where the Brick and Mortars are headed.

Previously, only Cantor Fitzgerald had been okayed by the Nevada Gaming Commission for mobile gaming devices.

Senator Reid, the Senate Minority Leader, can possibly hold HR4411 from a vote this fall. Sen. Reid, a former Gaming Commissioner and very astute guy, certainly knows about IGT's interest and the Brick & Mortar's interest in mobile gaming.

The AGA has a "study" focussed bill as an alternative to HR4411.

Senator Reid has shifted from "don't think it can be regulated" to something like "not opposed to study".

It's kind of like reading tea leaves, but it looks encouraging .... coupled with recent remarks by Frank Fahrenkopf, the AGA head and former head of the Republican Party.

That's how I read Farenkopf's comment too. He's not ready for the AGA to take an explicit stance against the bill, but this may give some indication of what they're hoping for (and perhaps lobbying for) behind the scenes.

FWIW, I actually think there's been a fair amount of good news in August. This stuff ... the holds ... gaming stocks recovering. We'll see what it all means soon enough, though.

That is some more good news. I'm getting the feeling we will see a "double victory" coming in the works. What I mean by that is, the bill will be reduced too credit card transactions, and other payment options that are already unavailable to the USA players. This version of the Bill will probably pass both, and get signed by the president. So one side can say "see we are making progress in banning online gambling" meanwhile we keep playing the way we always have.

Good follow up CEO, you went more indepth than me, I don't know much about Nevada gaming.

Besides this news, the info related in the other thread about the Frist/Leach "rally" in Cedar Rapids is actually kind of encouraging as well. For it means they are on the defensive. The more other senators and interested parties believe the news reports which say the bill most likely won't pass and see more opposition from groups like the SBA, then the less effort lukewarm senators who would otherwise vote for it will be willing to spend on it, and especially if doing so entails a lot of time or fighting.

They just won't want to invest in a losing cause when they can get publicity with the voters from working on things that actually stand a better chance of passing. So the Frist, Kyl and Leach may not actually be running scared, but neither are they walking so confidently either and are recognizing they have a real fight on their hands.

And a loss this year will make it harder to be victorious in the future, because they are the ones who hyped the Abramhoff scandal and its gambling aspects as issue that should lead all fence sitters to back the bill this year.
