Best, Quickest Way to acquire several thousand dollars (non gambling)
This is a spin off to the easiest thing to steal from people that is +EV(Snowboards were a popular answer-valuable unsecured property)
The title explains the thread. My buddy is in the hole for ~2500 and needs to pay up quick. I'd loan him the money, but it could be too high risk. Any ideas outside of drugs or armed robbery? |

My advice to you is to do what your parents did: get a job sir.

loan shark [/ QUOTE ] I'd loan shark him, but its too risky. I do loan to some of my closer friends with real jobs and permanent addresses by buying up their insanely high 29% APR credit card debt and reducing the juice to 10% apr. |

[/ QUOTE ] When you word it that way, it sounds rough, but it is actually win-win for both of us. If I lock up a large sum of money without gaining interest, I'm losing money. If they keep paying 29% APR on credit cards, they lose even more. So, basically we settle on 10% which is better than a CD (~5.5%) for me and a hell of a lot better than 29% for them. The Kneecap Rule still applies |

Re: Best, Quickest Way to acquire several thousand dollars (non gambli
sounds to me like your friends need to learn to plan their finances better.
if you dont want to tie up your cash, dont loan them the money. if you want to help them out, do it for free. how much could you possibly stand to gain from 10% APR anyway? unless your friends are borrowing megabucks or owing for an eternity (either of which would make them pretty unlikely loan candidates to begin with), you only extort beer money from them. |

[/ QUOTE ] Nothing douchy about it. 10K in credit debt (mostly college expenses) is much better to pay off at 10 than 29% For me, 10K in 5% CD yields 500, but if I help them out and just loan the 10K, I stand to lose 500. It's win-win for both parties, and it is actually my buddy who proposed the idea to me. What's really douchy is getting fleeced by the credit card companies for 30 cents on the dollar. |
