Laptop Wireless Internet Problem
I have a weird issue with my laptop... whenever I'm plugged in , the wireless internet at my house works fine. But whenever I unplug the comp, the internet phases in and out, causing slow connections and frequent disconnections when playing poker, to the point where I cannot even play. Is there some kind of setting I can change to make it so I could move to a different room in my apt without losing connection? Or is this an issue with the comp hardware that would need to be fixed.
Thanks in advance for any help. |

Re: Laptop Wireless Internet Problem
Sorry to ask a dumb question but for clarification, when you say "unplug", do you mean unplug the power cord? If unplugging the power cord causes your wireless internet connection to change....that is a weird one. More info please, including the laptop brand etc.
If I've totally misunderstood the question and you just want to figure out how to get a better wireless signal throughout your house, let me know. |

Re: Laptop Wireless Internet Problem
Yeah, unplug means taking the power jack out of the back of the laptop.
Comp is a Dell Latitude D610, stock internal wireless setup from dell. When plugged in, wireless works from everywhere in the house, no problems with connection whatsoever. When unplugged (running solely off battery), internet phases. No other laptops in my house have this issue. Hope that clears it up. |

Re: Laptop Wireless Internet Problem
It sounds like a power saving setting. Try dell support they should be able to point you in the right direction

Re: Laptop Wireless Internet Problem
Try going to Start>>All Programs>>Control Panel>>System>> Hardware (tab)>>Device Manager
Find your wireless card listed under "Network Devices" and right-click on it. Go to "Properties". There should now be a menu for your wireless card. There will be a power settings tab where you can set the card transmit strength when not plugged in to the AC. The default setting is a medium power setting, so uncheck "default" and slide the bar to the max. Click "Ok" or "Close" on the menu (I forget which one it is & I'm not on my laptop right now). That should solve the problem. |

Re: Laptop Wireless Internet Problem
Wow, that cleared it up instantly. I figured it was some sort of power setting issue, but for the life of me couldn't find where to fix it.
Thanks for the tip flash |
