Question for CANADIANS In the Wake of US Legislation
Is our money safe online or should we be moving it out as well? (Apparently many American poker players are moving their money offline right now.)
Any other considerations we should be looking at? |

Re: Question for CANADIANS In the Wake of US Legislation
I see no way that American legislation can interfere with or directly affect transactions between non-American poker sites and Canadian citizens or institutions.
If this ever actually goes through, my biggest consideration will be finding the best sites for terrible European players. Not to say there aren't lots of terrible Canadian players, but there just aren't enough of them, eh. |

Re: Question for CANADIANS In the Wake of US Legislation
Our money is safe for the moment, the problem is who says our goverment isn't going to decide to do the same thing 6 months from now?
The US bill has nothing to do with us, other then kill the fish pool. Sort of a Hijack but for those Canadians who play for a living what do you plan on doing if the fish pool dries up? |

Our government is incapable of doing it
- in the immediate future - without screwing it up - without spending 2B to recover 100K no worries |

You can be sure though that US will be putting pressure on the Canadian gov't to follow in the footsteps.

[/ QUOTE ] The online pool might still exist in some form (not nearly as populated as now but it might still be rich enough to make money off). Failing that, explore live options. Failing that, get a job/go back to school/be an entrepreneur in some other area. |

Re: Question for CANADIANS In the Wake of US Legislation
I guess what I was thinking was, if the USA bans poker, is it possible that poker sites like Party just close up shop and confiscate everyone's money? Or is this ridiculous?

Yep, Dikshit will also just keep all the money. He's in a bit of a cash crunch right now. However, he'll remember how much he owes everyone, and the next time he's flush, he'll get us all back.

[/ QUOTE ] Even without the 80% US poker base, party would still be making a ridiculous amount of money. I'd be more worried with Canada following the US legislation later down the road although enforcing it would be quite difficult. That's not to say that they can't force ISP's to ban online poker sites. |
