Default I\'m considering buying this television...

RCA 52'' Widescreen, Model D52W23

Best Buy now has it at $800 plus tax with free shipping. It's a rear-projection TV, and I've heard that the old school big screen TV's with rear-projection break easily. Does anyone have any experience or know anybody with experience with a TV like this?

Basically, I want a big screen TV like this, but I don't want to pay through the nose for it. This strikes me as a pretty good deal.

That looks sick! Perfect for my dormroom. Thanks for the link.

I've had a TV like this before. It worked really well. We had a hitachi that lasted for about 10 years.

I have never seen a dormroom that could hold a TV anywhere near this size

i'm confused why you would waste money on a technology that is now starting to become obsolete.

the picture is pretty [censored] on these projection tvs. spend a little extra cash and get an HDTV.

Shakes,

This is a solid TV. If $800 is your budget, its a great compromise.

Check froogle.com to see if you can find it elsewhere than best buy - assuming you probably have a best buy in your state you'll have to pay sales tax. Find another online merchant through froogle and should be able to save close to $100 - just be sure to compare the shipping costs.

Thanks for the advice on froogle, as I'd never used it before. However, the prices there are all $900-$1000 on the exact same item. Best Buy does have some sale on TV's going on right now, so that's probably the reason.

Thanks to everyone for the info.

I have an older Toshiba that I bought about 7 years ago. I have moved three times during that period, and never had a single problem with it.
