Assume the dealer is just a normal competent dealer.

Are they tipping at all? I havn't noticed.
I'm sure the dealers are being adequetly compensated. I can't imagine them being paid their standard casino wages. |

Will the dealers get royalties from reruns of the shows?

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I'm sure they get paid pretty well. So far this season (at the Palms), they've been using who I think is their Senior Dealer or something. He's the dealer in pretty much every Palms event you can find on TV. I'm not sure what the players are tipping, but I thought I heard somewhere in season 2 that the players had stacks of red $5 chips for tipping. |

If you look closely you will see stacks of redbirds to the side for tips among many players chips...I noticed it during the first season...this is something a lot of high stakes players do...buy chips that are not part of their table stakes and are only for tipping.

I tip more at higher stakes and bigger pots. Why the [censored] not? The difference between $1 and $5 is much more to the dealer working for tips than to me playing 5/10 NL or whatever.

[/ QUOTE ] Most pros do not...why? Because it's all about making money and to tip more just because you took down a bigger pot in their eyes is counterproductive. I know working pros here who play $20/$40 and up who never tip more than $1.00 regardless. And most dealers will tell you they get tipped better at the lower stakes than they do at higher stakes for this very reason. |

Although I have done so many times, I do not see why a larger tip is expected as pot sizes grow in size. The money at stake should not determine the size of a tip. $1 may not seem like much, but it adds up very quickly as each hour of play is logged. If I were to toke $2/pot won at 5/10NL, I would be tipping 100% more than I would toke at $1/pot won. In other words, @ 2 pots/hour @ 40/hrs a week for 48 weeks... I would be tipping $7680 instead of $3840. That is a lot of money especially since I do not have the benefits the dealer posseses... job security, insurance, etc.

![]() Keep in mind that the players on High Stakes Poker are being paid a salary to appear on the show. The salary is insignificant compared to the stakes of the game, but enormous compared to how much the players could possibly expect to pay-out in tips. I think this would make me more generous to the dealers than in any other situation where I am paying the casino for the privilege of playing. |
