Favorite Rum?
I like the El Dorado 15 Year. This is old-school Guyana rum, like pirates used to drink. Dark amber color, soft burnt sugar smell with a hint of banana. Sweet taste, but not too sweet, buttery with nice wood and butterscotch and a little bit of coconut (this is not a flavored rum -- it's just an undertone).
And it's maybe the smoothest brown liquor I've ever had -- not harsh at all going down straight, with just a pleasant little burn that doesn't even start until a couple of seconds later. I like mixed drinks, but it would be almost a sin to mix this with anything. At $22-$25/bottle, it's cheaper than a lot of top-flight rums, too. Any other suggestions? |

Re: Favorite Rum?
I started a thread below about Neisson and La Favorite. They're probably my favorites right now.
Other than those, I like Rhum Barbancourt 8 Ron del Barrilito Santa Teresa 1796 |

El Dorado 15 Year [/ QUOTE ] I agree, good stuff. Their older stuff, 25 year I think, is even better. Expensive though... |

Re: Favorite Rum?
15 year? 25 year? What is it about rum that requires so much more aging?
