Where does the money come from to fund the high stakes games? Who are the donators and where do they get the money from?

What? WTF are you talking about. But I can tell you this. The donators are sanitation workers. After a long tough night, they tear open the garbage they picked up from rich neighborhoods in hopes of striking it rich. When they do, they go buy some blow and throw a party in the HSNL games.

[/ QUOTE ] I'll give you a serious answer as the poker economy is a serious issue. (These are in no particular order.) 1) Tourney donks who either just got lucky or are very good tourney players and think that experience automatically transfers into cash games. 2) Random rich gamblers who fade in and out of the high stakes scene. 3) Pro wannabes who work their way up the ranks but manage their rolls badly and take innappropriate shots at the highest games without the discipline to drop down when the shot fails and go bust and repeat the process. 4) Pro wannabes who manage their rolls fairly well and are willing to drop down when things aren't going well, but who can't make it at the higher levels ever because of a lack of aptitude or study and whose well-managed shots are long term leaks that detract from otherwise good earnings that they could always make at their true level of expertise a couple notches lower. 5) Pro wannabes who are somewhat/very lag and who have gotten lucky for a short term (which might be a few years) when the games were good, but who will dump big once the games aren't and their mistakes aren't covered by bigger mistakes of pure fish. Although many of these are thinking players, only a few think well enough to make it long term, as they are the most prone not to want to drop down on a very bad run and re-evaluate their game. |

Thanks bluffthis, very informative. I always imagined that there would be a pyramid effect with players winning on one level and then dumping it as they try to move up. I play $1/2NL and I can see this happening at my level. However, there are also plenty of donators who seem to be able to afford to give away money on a somewhat regular basis. I was thinking about the high stakes games and wondered who could afford to play as a donator at the higher limits. It's a lot of money.
If you were to guess, in the average online $10/20 NL game, how much (% wise) of the money donated is 2nd hand (ie. won at lower limits or tournies)and how much is 1st hand (from a losing donator)? |

[/ QUOTE ] Also the higher the limits you go the less it takes to "qualify as a good game." I know talking to my buddy that plays NL 200 for a living that in 6 max he's only happy if 2 of the players are over a VPIP of 40% and a 3rd player is a "losing player" (good stats, bad postflop play). While when I'm playing NL1K I'm SUPER HAPPY if 1 player is over 40% VPIP and that's even if he's "ok" postflop (I'll sit a long time at 1K's when I see a donkey like that). |
