Why not? You have AJ and the flop comes 4 J 4. What kind of flop are you betting on with AJ?

You bet for value, b/c JT-KJ all call as does some baby pairs like 55-88. You also don't want to give your opponent a free chance to catch a Q or K.

You have to call river b/c you have a strong hand that you've totally underrepresented.

Okay I've played with this opponent for quite a while a KNOW he is not limp-calling with a hand like JT or A4 here, in my experience with this opponent, a limp-call UTG from him means he has a pocket pair TT or smaller.

This isnt a bad flop for a middle pair. You still might get called.

Betting the flop and checking the turn is much better than checking the flop and firing on the turn and river IMO. The flop bet looks like a standard cbet, and I doubt 55-TT is going anywhere based on the flop. The check behind on the turn induces river bluffs much better than a bet on the turn does if you want to extract the most from villain's middle pair. As played, I think you have to call this river as you've massively under-represented the strength of your hand. Raising knocks out all the hands you beat and he'll only call if he has a set or better.

Quark,

Are you overanalyzing and FPSing TPTK at 50nl?

As played I call here.

Betting the flop when you miss and checking when you hit is a bad plan IMO, especially if you play with this guy regularly. Also he'll probably call a bet right now, but may not if an A,K, or Q falls and you wake up. Tupacia also makes good points.
