Default worst band for rock and roll

screw this "best of the best" crap. I want to know who is responsible for the crappiest music in existence. I don't just mean the band that produced the worst music, I mean the bands that started it all. the guys who tore decades of brilliant musical composition asunder with cliched mediocrity.

there are some bands like journey that are so bad they're good, that's not exactly what I'm talking about. I mean guys who once sought to be taken seriously and actually led rock astray with their impotence.

like, blink 182. these guys took a respectable form of music and not only trashed it to unrecognition, but inspired tons of other bands to do the same.

but I'm only a B-rate music snob so I wanna hear about some others.

I'm going to hijack this immediately and defend blink. To say they're among the worst bands for rock is absurd. They write incredibly good pop songs with catchy hooks, amusing lyrics, and their drummer is an incredible technician. For what they do, they're probably the best in the world -- that is, pop-punk. Sure, Rancid & Operation Ivy are better bands, but for mainstream pop-punk in their style, they're pretty great. And they shouldn't be blamed for inspiring crappy and pathetic wastes of space like Fallout Boy and Good Charlotte. Would you say Kubrick & Tarantino are the worst directors for cinema given their endless stream of awful imitators?

Well, I was going to defend blink but I can't really do a better job than that.

I disagree. I think blink led the movement from sweet, upbeat bands like rancid to awful things like the all-american rejects, sum 41, a simple plan, etc. if you want to defend pop-punk then we'll never be able to overcome our differences in tastes but I personally think it's one of the worst things ever to happen to rock. green day and the offspring also had a lot to do with it but at least they didn't suck as bad (imo).

but fwiw I really liked cheshire cat and a bit less dude ranch, I just think they took a turn for the pussified after that.
