Whatever happened to fast rap?
I noticed that when I was in high school a big part of rap about how fast you were. Everyone made fun of Ma$e because his rhyming was so slow.
I'm not a big hip hop fan but I noticed that "fast" rap has mostly disappeared. Is my observation accurate? What happened? |

Re: Whatever happened to fast rap?
I wondered this the other day too as I heard Bone Thugs N Harmony on the radio. I thought about the Fushniks too. I liked trying to figure out what they were saying.

Re: Whatever happened to fast rap?
Does rap even exist anymore? Probably not if it weren't for underground stuff.

Re: Whatever happened to fast rap?
"theres nothing harder than slow rap"
so true. if you rap fast it's easy to hide the fact that you're spitting a bunch of dumb [censored]. if you rhyme slow, you really have to have some content. |

Re: Whatever happened to fast rap?
Who are you thinking of specifically from your high school days? I think fast flows have always been in the minority...
That said Twista is fairly popular and there are a few people on the fringes of the mainstream, like JTMoney & 7L&Esoteric I think it's just a trend shift....take someone like 50 Cent -- he can rap fast just fine, but he just doesn't choose to most of the time. |

I know he can certainly rap faster than he typically does on his radio-friendly songs, but I think those bullet fragments in his mouth make it impossible for him to rap with enough speed to impress anybody. |
