KG #1 is insane.

These are so arbitrary and will certainly cause flaming, so flame away. Here is my metric: If I'm building a team for this ONE upcoming season with the idea of winning the championship, I choose this person. I don't care about ticket sales and the future. Moreoever, assume the normal health over the course of this player's future. This takes tMac off the list, and brings into question Shaq's availability for the entire season.

1. Tim Duncan
2. Kobe Bryant
3. LeBron James
4. Dwyane Wade
5. Elton Brand
6. Dirk Nowitzki (he moves way up if he can close out Spurs and his D is really for real)
7. Steve Nash
8. Jason Kidd
9. Allen Iverson
10. KG (maybe, could also see Billups, Pierce, or Arenas here as well)

These threads always just turn into a "Nash is overrated" "NO OMGLOLZBBQ he is awesome" thread.

hornacek,

did you watch the suns/lakers series? did you watch game 7? did you watch the second half? kobe revealed himself a headcase of nearly artest proportions. how can rate him so high when he sabotaged his team in the most important minutes of the season?

Victor, Kobe is on TNT halftime show tonight. Chaz is sure to berate him for Game 7. I reserve the right to change my rankings after I watch what he has to say tonight.

fwiw I hate his guts, but I still have him ranked highly as a player. If he did indeed tank Game 7, then he will drop a lot. Fact of the matter, he's won a lot (3 titles), which is more than any other "superstar" currently playing and tied with Dunc and Shack.

I really couldn't justify putting Wade or LBJ higher than Kobe. At least not now.

maybe because he has no one on his team and if kobe is not on that team they go 25-57?

seriously.

If I were to take anyone to build my team around TODAY!, here's how it would go:

1. Lebron James
2. Dwayne Wade
3. Kobe Bryant
4. Steve Nash
5. Dirk Nowitzki

Let's face it, Duncan and Shaq have 2-3 years left in their careers (5 years max). And while they are still good, they are nowhere near the dominant force that they were 5 years ago.
