Default jeter overrated? say it ain\'t so?

players poll showed that 9% of mlb players thought jeter was the most overrated player in the mlb. beltran and arod followed afterwards.

i understand jeter being overrated, but arod is definitely not.

how is jeter overrated? He's a complete player who seems to come through more in the clutch than Arod does. He is a more than adequate fielder at SS-I don't care what the UZR metrics say, they are WRONG)- a fantastic bunter, base stealer, base runner, can hit to all fields, and is the emotional and mental leader of the Yankees He's the Captain.

Sarcasm or not, but it's pretty easy to spot Jeter's defensive deficiencies. Watch him try to go to his left. He can't.

Scott Podsednik

Jeter is actually a very good player, just not the superstar he is sometimes made out to be. The White Sox gave up Carlos Lee to get Podsednik in a trade that doesn't get criticized enough because they won it all. Podsednik is a below average MLB LF, but this is often overlooked because he is a "catalyst" and "makes things happen". It does not matter how fast you are if you only get on base 34% of the time.

well, scotty pods plays better defense than el caballo (he's no great shakes, but he's better) and he cost like 6 mil less. it was an okay deal, I guess. I don't think he's really that overrated except by tim mccarver.

When I hear any of the following used to refer to a player, I start to suspect the player is overrated.

"Does the little things"
"Clubhouse leader"
"Has the intangibles"
"Is a grinder/lunch-pail guy"
"Gritty"

I'm sure others can add to this list.

Neither could Zoolander

Jeter is a good, solid shortstop. Take him away from the Yankees and what do you got? His numbers aren't anywhere near the new wave of shortstops. Miggy has better offensive stats than Jeter.

Jeter isn't even the best Yankee shortstop. I can understand why some people think he's over-rated.

Last year he was outstanding on defense, however, this was a valid criticism in any other year.
