I have heard this as well.

I was 12 when Jordan was a rookie and early 20's when he retired the first time ... he was/is my absolute hero. I would not cast doubt on his statements lightly, but I never believed for a second he retired to play baseball.

Barkley semi-famously bet like 200k on the money line on the Patriots vs the Rams in the SB about 4 years ago, winning I believe 1.4M. This news would come as no surprise to me.

They said on Sportscenter it was 550K. Phil Mickelson was another athlete who's been known to gamble quite a bit, winning $560K on the Ravens to win the Superbowl and the Diamondbacks to win the World Series.
