I am in a debate over the way AA was played in the $10 - $20 NL at Commerce. UTG (villan) makes it $90 to go with AA. One other caller and my friend (hero)calls in the BB with 33.
The flop comes 5-5-3 and hero checks and villan with AA bets about half the pot or $160, hero calls. A J hits the turn, hero checks and villan checks! A blank hits the river, hero bets $600 and villan folds. Hero says villan is a very good player and this hand shows his ability to make big lay downs when he feels he is beat. I just don't see how he can't bet the turn. Any comments? |

A classic Matt Damon laydown, tell your friend to stop eating oreos while playing live.

uhh...it's pretty standard to check the turn there. villain made his continuation bet on the flop, and on the turn, he thought he was way ahead or way behind so he checked. ur friend simply got outplayed.

your friend shouldve raised the flop if the guy is good.

Aren't there a ton of possible pairs my friend calls with and checks the turn that are well behind AA, but that may very well make a pot sized bet on the river after a check check turn? How about 66, 77, 88, 99, 1010, QQ, possibly KK? Villan looks too much like he has AK here with only a half pot sized continuation bet and a checked turn.
I am not disagreeing, I am just trying to understand. |

[/ QUOTE ] no, this is what makes the other guy a good player. your friend is very predictable it seems. ....and it's live poker |

Something is missing here unless villian had a strong read on your friend. I only know 1 or 2 players in that game that play that weak.
Checking turn for villian is fine but the way the hand played out, a call on river is a must (without any reads) fyiw-I like a lead by hero on flop or a check raise I will be playing a late afternoon/evening session tomorrow. Anybody else??? |

no - the only hand hero can have here that villain beats is QQ. if hero has TT he is check calling the river, not leading out. this is going by my read from over the internet having no idea who hero is - and i can tell he is too abc and perhaps weak tight - i would imagine villain picked up this and more at the table.
