Ranking the Super Bowl MVPs
Because I was really bored and I've always been interested in this, I decided to rank all of the Super Bowl MVPs. 37 players have won or shared the award. There are virtually no shlubs on this list. 16 Hall of Famers, 5 current/recently retired players who are locks. This doesn't count Richard Dent who I think should be in and probably will one day. There's no specific formula, I just kind of looked over all the guys stats, Pro Bowls, other awards, etc. I took into account the fact that the stats are so much more inflated nowadays. Here's the list:
1. Jerry Rice WR- SF 2. Joe Montana QB- SF 3. Peyton Manning QB- IND 4. Emmitt Smith RB- DAL 5. John Elway QB- DEN 6. Tom Brady QB- NE 7. Steve Young QB- SF 8. Roger Staubach QB- DAL 9. Randy White DT- DAL 10. Ray Lewis LB- BAL 11. Franco Harris RB- PIT 12. Troy Aikman QB- DAL 13. Terry Bradshaw QB- PIT 14. Len Dawson QB- KC 15. Bart Starr QB- GB 16. Marcus Allen RB- LA 17. Larry Csonka RB- MIA 18. Richard Dent DE- CHI 19. Joe Namath QB- NYJ 20. Chuck Howley LB- DAL 21. Fred Bilnetnikoff WR- OAK 22. John Riggins RB- WAS 23. Terrell Davis RB- DEN 24. Jake Scott S- MIA 25. Phil Simms QB- NYG 26. Hines Ward WR- PIT 27. Ottis Anderson RB- NYG 28. Lynn Swann WR- PIT 29. Kurt Warner QB- STL 30. Harvey Martin DE- DAL 31. Jim Plunkett QB- OAK 32. Deion Branch WR- NE 33. Mark Rypien QB- WAS 34. Doug Williams QB- WAS 35. Dexter Jackson S- TB 36. Desmond Howard KR- QB 37. Larry Brown CB- DAL |

Re: Ranking the Super Bowl MVPs
So you just ranked them as players, not according to their respective Superbowl performances? I don't really see any way to compare players at different positions objectively.

Re: Ranking the Super Bowl MVPs
So, basically, you are ranking the best players of all time, minus a few.

Re: Ranking the Super Bowl MVPs
Explain how Phil is at #25. He only completed 22 out of 25 passes in the biggest game of his life on the biggest stage in the world.

Re: Ranking the Super Bowl MVPs
Brady it's kind of a projection of where he'll end up when all is said and done. That being said, right now Brady has 21,564 yards and 147 TDs. Staubach had 22,700 yards and 153 TDs. Remember Staubach and Young weren't starters for that long during their career. They each had about 8 or 9 years of starting experience and Brady already has 6. Brady will be a starter for another 8 years or so barring injury. I'd say there's a 70% chance he gets another ring, maybe 30% he gets another 2. He's got a really good chance at 50,000 passing yards. And the guy has been unbelievable in the postseason. I hate the Pats and wish this wasn't the case but I've got to give the guy his due.
