Get to teach university class! Life BBV

I'm a graduate student at a university and I get to teach a 5-week introductory class starting on August 6. This class will be all mine and I'll give lectures, set test dates, prepare tests and unfortunately grade all hw and tests.

I want to be an instructor after I obtain my degree so this is great for me. They were short on instructors, but few grad students get a chance to teach an entire class for credit.

Brag: ~$3200 for the month of August. This is over double my normal pay. [img]/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img]

Beat: I have to grade papers, which is the worst part of teaching a class. [img]/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]

not actually a beat if you use it well, just tell the pretty girls to go to your office hours to "discuss" the test.

I was actually thinking about taking a year off after grad school to teach english in Viet Nam. You can make a decent amount of money (especially considering the average salary is ~$2 there) and it shouldn't be too hard.

The major thing that sucks about that job is the heat and humidity is very high for almost the entire year (especially in the South).

I think that every teaching assistant would agree grading is the worst part (assuming you don't try to commit a horrible ethics violation).

I was kinda referring to kids who do really well in their classes but still have no respect for how good the professors really are because they think its adult to complain because you are paying for it....bleh...its a pointless peeve and im sure ive been guilty at times....

but anyway good luck....teaching would be a dream job...so much freedom..

It is an introduction to 'engineering analysis', but the students will be learning how to computer program in Fortran. This language is still heavily used for many engineering applications because it is hands-down the most efficient language for raw number crunching.
