Ipod USB cable turns my computer off? WTF
Up until recently, my cable works fine
today when I plug it in to charge, my computer goes off. Its not actually off -the power is on, but my monitors are off. The Ipod isnt charging either. When I turn my computer off, if i plug the ipod inte the USB port it goes on in the same manner, not that i can actually use it but it sounds like its doing something theres nothing wrong with the specfic port as it happens in any of them and all other devices are working fine when I plug it into my laptop it wont charge but it has no other effect I googled it and cant find anything WTF, help!? |

Re: Ipod USB cable turns my computer off? WTF
um, get a new cable.
it's possible the cable is damaged and shorting the USB port, which turns off the computer. It sounds strange enough that I would definitely replace it to risk causing damage to the computer |

Re: Ipod USB cable turns my computer off? WTF
but when I plug the cable in by itself, nothing happens
its only when i plug cable in and have the ipod attached that it turns itself off/to sleep, which suggests its more of an ipod problem than cable |

Basically, cables are cheaper to replace than computers & ipods. So try changing that. |

How do you store your cables? It sounds like a cable issue, like you've been wrapping them around something too tight or kinking them too much. If you know someone with an iPod you might try hooking it up to there machine and seeing what happens with a different cable.
