What's your chip stack? He has ~20 BB. Not a bad move. He could be raising wide, but folding most of those hands. If it won't hurt you to lose the chips, take a flip with decent fold equity.

You're 40% against 77+, AJ+. I think you'll take this pot down uncontested a fair amount of time to make up for the 8% equity you're laying in the pot against his range. I'm a little surprised he called with 99.

If his range is 77+, AJs+, he would have to fold 25% of the time for this to be break-even. So, calling with JJ+,AQs+,AKo?

Math:
(win 13k 40% when called (22.4%), lose 12k 60% when called (33.6%), win 4500 44% when not called = +2912 - 4012 + 1120 == 0).

If you put him on a tighter range, then it's an easy fold, since he's not folding much of hwat he's raising with.

I think the play is fine as long as you think he's the kind of player who isoraises with A10+; 77+. You may get a fold out of 1010 here, AJ, AQ, A10. That 99 called is pretty laughable, but you probably milked more information out of him than he out of you + you're going to get a lot of respect from LP raisors now.

I don't know about that. Villain is getting 1.88:1 on the call so he needs to be only 34% favorite to break even. If he puts hero on a range of TT+,AQs+,AQo+ he has 37% equity and even make a profit. With a hero's range of JJ+,AKs,AKo it becomes slightly -EV for villain to call.

Against a random unknown player, I would call with 99. With a read, I fold.

Both players played this fine. Pushing with a hand as good as 99 with some FE is the correct play and the opp had the right equity + odds to call. {fwiw, 99 is 46% against 77+,AJ+, not 40%}
