Anyone ever gotten rid of a book because it sullied your collection?
I was organizing my poker books tonight and couldn't help but feel that two of the books I got when I first started playing really didn't belong. Seriously considering throwing/giving them away.
Books in question are Phil Gordon's "The Real Deal" and Phil Hellmuth's "Play Poker Like the Pros." Both extremely worthless IMO, and only stand to lower the value of my collection. |

I think you are undervaluing PPLTP. Seriously. The advice outside of the limit hold'em chapter generally isn't bad.

Then again, it's nice to have a reminder of how much you've improved as a player, no?

Give them away to someone.

Re: Anyone ever gotten rid of a book because it sullied your collectio
Hellmuth's book is underrated IMHO. It has very useful information on non-holdem games (especially Razz), and his "animal types" are a pretty useful way of framing the whole topic of profiling opponents.
I also don't think the first Phil Gordon book is bad. it's just intended for real beginners. It is intended to teach people about poker, not how to play poker. I don't see why you would get rid of either book unless space is an issue. I've read a couple poker books that are much worse than both. |

Agree about PPLTP, am not impressed at all. Was surprised about the Phil Gordon one tho - haven't read it, but liked his 'Little Green Book'...

Online Poker by Doyle is easily the worst, and I own virtually everything.
Hellmuth's "Texas Hold 'Em" is awful also, and kind of shady since it's basically a shortened version of PPLTP. |

I've given away or thrown out more poker books than I've kept.

Most are pretty good, but there aren't more than 7 or 8 that I'd buy again if I started over
