Default Top five most significant historical events of the past 2100 years.

ok..top 5 list day two.

Title says it..top 5 significant events last 2100 years.

1. Birth of Christ
2. Invention of Computer
3. Guttenberg Press
4. Black Plague
5. Flight

Choice of Christ's birth is not from my religious point of view but rather for it's significance on modern world events. I work with computers (and hate them) but gotta give it credit.

1. Death of Christ (argument is that this was more significant than his birth because his death was what spawned christianity not his birth from a historical perspective)
2. Plague
3. Guttenberg Press
4. Magna Carta
5. World War II

Abolition of slavery

Plague (as a side note of personal interest the village where my parents live has a plague pit under its green where there are around 700 bodies - always put the chills up my spine that one)

World war 2

The invention of the microprocessor

The development of modern medicine

To narrow the medicine one down would be harsh, penicillen, antiseptics, heart transplants, IVF, cloning, stem cell research, brain surgery, key hole surgery, the list is pretty endless, and i think all of them are more significant looking forward than just about anything you could list.

Im not 100% sold on Jesus ever existing, though i agree the balance of evidence is he probably existed in some form or another. I also think if we include on prophet we have to include all prophets. If he lived exactly as told in the Bible, i still believe his birth or death is not worthy of a top 5.

Whether he lived or not is irrelevant. Christianity is the basis of Western Civilization. Western civilization has had more influence over the course of History of the last 2000 years than any other.

I don't believe the birth of any of the prophets is really that important. It's what their followers did afterward that matters. That being said, the prophet Muhammad did a lot more to form and spread his religion than Jesus did.

I don't think you can mention WWII without bringing up WWI. In many ways, WWII was just extension of the first one. Ultimately, WWI had more influence on the World. WWII just fine tuned things a bit.

QFT. There have even been recent isolated cases of it in the U.S.

Obviously the abolition of slavery didnt happen in one specific moment world wide, and its true that slavery exists still to this day.

However, the moment that the west realised that slavery was wrong and thus made illegal was a pretty huge point on the map for the human race.
