Trying to claim pot with one card.
This had been happening a lot at my local casino and there is one player who just keeps doing it. This is the situation.
The player makes a bet I call. The player shows one card and I then say thats good. The player then mucks his other card which now cant be retrived. Should this player still win the pot. I keep warning the player if he does it again I will claim the pot but he keeps doing it. Do I have the right to claim the pot if he only has one card? Mark. |

Re: Trying to claim pot with one card.
Claim it. You have to show both cards at showdown to get the pot.
edit: I'm surprised the casino/dealer doesn't say something to him. |

[/ QUOTE ] I never understand this situation, why does it matter what he does after you concede? Yes, he is leaving himself wide open to an angleshooter that will attempt to claim a pot he didn't win but I am certain you or the other person in this thread are not one of those. If you called his bet and want to see both cards, just wait until he turns both cards over, don't say "It's Good." just wait silently and he will eventually have to turn over both cards. We don't have that problem much in Indiana because you have to show both hole cards to claim the pot. It appears to me that you have trained him that it is okay to show one card, because you concede without seeing the other card. Please don't wait until he mucks one of his cards (which I will concede is a really stupid thing to do.) and try to claim a pot that isn't rightfully yours. |

Re: Trying to claim pot with one card.
Why do you tell him "Thats Good." You see how that leads a person to think you are conceeding the pot.
Why don't you stop that. |

Re: Trying to claim pot with one card.
I just ask what else he's got and look back like I might have a kicker question.
That or a wiseass comment about playing A2 (its invariably an ace that is turned up here) or some other wheel card. And like the other thread I just responded to...timed games are a great cure for this. A player getting nitty over showing a hand slows down a game, which means less hands for the same time paid, which means peer pressure speeds this process up. |

Re: Trying to claim pot with one card.
I agree with just not saying anything until he shows both cards. Seems to me by saying "That's good" you are giving up the pot. If you are calling him, he has to show to win.

Re: Trying to claim pot with one card.
If you are beat, you are beat. If you want to see both his cards, don't be a nit and concede the hand. It's pretty simple.
The one card shower isn't as annoying as the people who complain about the one card shower. Nothing worse than having your time taken up because someone has the nut flush, shows the A, person says you won, person with an A put his other card face down, and conceder starts screaming "He mucked he mucked, it's my pot" It's childish and stupid, so don't do it. |

Re: Trying to claim pot with one card.
That is how the table generally works. If the player is called they usuall just show one card and wait for the other player to confirm if they are good. Sometimes they wont show you the cards at all and just say what their had is.
I dont know what the problem is with just showing both cards. If someone has called my bet I will just turn my cards over and usually say what my hand is. I am not trying to angle shoot I am trying to make the game run more quickly. This is a timed rake game and waiting for the player to show both cards before you can confirm is going to slow the game down. Its bad enough sometimes getting them to show one card never mind two. Re: Trying to claim pot with one card.
Its all well and good to just say you should turn them both over. Thats correct.
But the point is that if he turns over one card and you tell him its good then he thinks he has won. Now you wnat to play games. try this.ext time just turn over your cards (oh thats righht there a big secret and you don't want to show unless you have to) Now the dealer won't push him the pot until he shows both. |
