Overheard at Hollywood Park...
Apparently spoken in all seriousness at a NL game, where TT was all in preflop against KK.
"I can't believe my bad luck, that's a 440:1 shot." (... to my bewildered look) "You have to do the math. Any pocket pair has 220:1 odds, so someone else having a better pocket pair is another 220:1, for 440:1 total." I nodded and immediately agreed. That is indeed terrible luck.... |

Re: Overheard at Hollywood Park...
The crazy thing is how often I have aces and yet someone else has a better pocket pair. Seems way more often than the 440:1 that the math indicates.

If it makes you feel better...
I had a guy a couple of weeks ago tell me that flopped top set is a dog to a straight/flush draw(not even a straight flush draw). I disagreed with him reflexively once, then began agreeing as soon as it dawned on me that he was serious.

[/ QUOTE ] The thing that gets me about live poker (online too I suppose but I don't talk with many bad online players) is that so many of these guys are dead wrong about fundamental things but so confident that if you don't know any better you'd think they were the experts. I'm always amazed at how wrong I realize someone who used to sound right really is. The better I get the funnier it gets. |
