Hypothetical Short-Handed Stud/8 Third Street Scenario
You're playing four-handed. An aggressive but not stupid player showing a four has the only low card showing and completes the bring-in, as he usually does when he has the only low card out there. You have a king showing. The other two players have a ten and a jack, respectively.
What are your thoughts on playable hands in the following scenarios: You are first to act after the bring-in. You are last to act and the other two players have folded. It's the final table of a tournament and you all have 5-9BB left in either of the above situations. |

Re: Hypothetical Short-Handed Stud/8 Third Street Scenario
with only 5-9 bb left i'd say you should only be playing big pairs, jj-aa, and rereraising with them in this situation. also hope no one else comes along and the original raiser has a had like 473 or something

Re: Hypothetical Short-Handed Stud/8 Third Street Scenario
I don't think I change my mix of hands much from one scenario to the next. I'm playing roll-ups, big pairs, and reasonable three-flushes. I don't know how to play much of anything else. I'm assuming that the Jack and Ten will fold like good little boys no matter what I do most of the time. Whether I raise or just call will mostly depend on the bring-in's tendencies rather than the cards I hold. If he will often fold on fourth street after catching a banana, I'll raise third so that I can steal a bigger pot. If he's more tenacious, I'll flat-call so that he'll be making a mistake by calling when he blanks off on fourth.

Re: Hypothetical Short-Handed Stud/8 Third Street Scenario
Scenario 1 - Flat Call 8s or 9s, Raise T's or better.
Scenario 2 - Raise any pair better than 7s, flat call A - Baby Card - K Scenario 3 - Raise any pair regardless of position since you are so short. However, in Stud 8 it is not uncommon for there two be 4 players left with everyone only have 5-9 BB left when the blinds get super high. In this scenario, play it as normal. |
