Bruins last night... the horror.... the horror....
The Bruins are f-ed. They're not making the playoffs. Horrible conclusion to last night's game, where yet another defensive breakdown cost the team a point against the lowly Philly team. Thomas stopped 55 shots, only to have his big men suffer a mental lapse with about a minute left in OT. Reminded me of how I felt when Bucky Dent and Aaron Boone got their new middle names.

BEAT: being a Bruins fan.
Seriously, there's no reason to have faith in this team making the playoffs. Neither their forwards, nor defense, nor goaltending are particularly good. Hockey really needs to get rid of Bill Wirtz and Jeremy Jacobs somehow - they make it so that neither Boston nor Chicago will ever have a halfway decent team. |

Re: Bruins last night... the horror.... the horror....
It's a special kind of misery. The Bruins usually play one good period, one lackluster period, and one awful period. Last night they looked sharp in the 1st. Then they totally sucked in the second, but still managed to tie things up. They had the best chances in the 3rd, but had to rely on Thomas - twice one on one - to stop the flurry of uncontested shots.
In OT, the Bruins were dominant. They kept the pressure on and made it very difficult for Philly to change lines. Then a bad pass and a defenseman hugging the boards allowed the game winning breakaway. I wasn't sure if I was disappointed or amused. The Bad News Bruins. |

Re: Bruins last night... the horror.... the horror....
Couple of interesting scary stats.
55 shots, most ever by Philly, one of the worst Philly teams ever. 55 shots, most shots given up by a Bruins team in over 40 years. |

Re: Bruins last night... the horror.... the horror....
I'm a Canucks fan, but as someone who cuoldn't care less about what goes on in the East, I'd really like to see the Bruins and Islanders make it to the playoffs. I don't want to see the Hurricanes or the Leafs... boring stories.

Re: Bruins last night... the horror.... the horror....
I haven't really followed hockey at all in years because of Jacobs, he's ruining a great franchise and no one cares because the Patriots and the Sox have been the story in Boston since 2001.

Re: Bruins last night... the horror.... the horror....
Back to back wins and now 4 points out. Should be interesting unless or until they rip my heart out. Didn't get to see either of the weekend games so I can't say whether they looked good agains the Habs and Devils, but giving up just two goals in two games isn't too shabby.
Tuesday the B's host Colorado, and they're home again Thursday against Minnesota. The Bruins need regulation wins agains these two middling western conference teams. |

I can tell you the Devils were absolute garbage last night - Bruins played okay, but not great - they definitely wanted it more though.
