I don't know how to build websites and I don't want to know. I've dicked around with wordpress and bluevoda and found them completely frustrating.
I have contacted a few web designers about building my monetized blog site (basically I am copying stevepavlina.com) and my lowest bid so far is $900 plus $65 per hour to maintain/update. I really don't think I have the time or inclination to build it myself, but I don't know if I want to flip a coin with craigslist either. Thoughts? |

I would try to get some connections to a computer scientist and ask him. Students are pretty cheap and also good.
I asked a professional web designer and an acquaintance makes it for 1/3 of his price. Of course, he's a nice guy and makes updates for free. |

That looks like a default wordpress template with some extra pages and some adsense injection. If someone is trying to charge you 900$ for this they must think you are retarded. To have someone set this up it shouldnt cost more than 100$ and take a few hours.

Yeah there's no way it will take longer than 2 hours to get a reasonable facsimile of Pavlina's site. You don't even have to hack out a new theme if you use Wordpress.
1. Wordpress/Mysql admin setup will take 10 mins 2. Choose/implement a theme 5 mins 3. Add static links 5 mins 4. Setup google adsense 5 mins 5. Add links to sidebar 10 mins 6. Setup newsletter email subscription widget 20 mins (depends on availability of addon) There's no way you should pay $900 for the above. |

Check out elance.com.
Also, I think Pavilna's site looks pretty bad and based on the couple articles of his I've read I think he's a raging idiot. So don't copy him too much. |
