Hire personal trainer?
Most of my life I have always had team sports to keep me in shape(hockey , soccer etc.) but due to some injuries etc. stopped last year. I have found myself getting way out of shape. I have a hard time coming up with fitness ideas etc.
and I think a personal trainer might help. Anyone with thoughts or experiences using a personal trainer? |

What are your goals? Do you need to lose weight? Get stronger? Increase cardio vascular endurance?

Re: Hire personal trainer?
Personal trainers are good becuase they will keep you motivated, keep workouts fun/safe and you will have a schedule that you feel obligated to keep.
For a competent one you might be paying around 50 dollars an hour though. Sometimes getting a friend who knows a little about weight lifting and fitness can be just as good as a trainer. Im sure even on here people will be willing to help you with ideas.. If you do decide to get one make sure to ask which certification they have and research that certification. Look for ACSM or ACE preferably. Ones you can get online in an hour are no good. |

Unless you're wealthy, or just don't care about money, I don't see the point. Just load up your ipod with a bunch of songs you like and hit the gym regularly. It's fun.

Unless you are one of those people that cannot go to the gym without the motivation of having a trainer, I say save yourself the money. Read the FAQ in this forum. There are also a couple of good books out there that can get you headed in the right direction. |

Re: Hire personal trainer?
I just got one 4 sessions for $100 (I go to college so this is a lot cheaper I think).
First session is Tuesday, I'll try to remember and post a TR here. |

Re: Hire personal trainer?
Is my friend getting ripped off? He's paying 80 dollars per session for 24 sessions which come out to be 1920. One session is an hour long. I think he's paying way too much but he really needs it. He's 5'11 and about 260 pounds. He is more motivated now because he's paying alot of money. Maybe that is the key? He's going twice a week so the whole thing is going to take 3 months. What happens after that though? Without the trainer will he stop going? If that is so he's going to have to pay someone for his rest of his life?
