welcome to the No Fun Century
The No Fun Nazis have nearly won the battle. We now live in a country where "no running" signs are posted on playgrounds, where smoking is not even allowed in your own car in some towns, where busybodies in municipal governments want to ban or heavily tax your delicious fried foods, where "no tolerance" policies expel children for drawing pictures of guns and where "zero tolerance" alcohol policies end up with people arrested for drunk driving with .03 BAC.
We live in a country where alcohol is banned from nearly every city park and public beach, where you can be thrown in prison for drawing a DIGITAL picture that slightly resembles an underage person, where the FCC can fine you millions of dollars for broadcasting horrifying words like bull [censored] and showing horrifying images such as a nipple. Anyone who thinks we live in a free country is nuts. And now the final straw, this year's world famous halloween party in the Castro district of San Francisco was CANCELLED. There were hundreds of cops camped in the neighborhood ensuring that no one had any fun, harassing anyone in costume and interrogating them as to their destination. Yes, welcome to the No Fun Century. the death of the Castro Halloween party is really all you need to know about where this country is heading. To quote one of the more accurate depictions of the future ever put onto film: "All right, gentlemen, let's review. The year is 2031 - that's two-oh-three-one - and I am sorry to say the world has become a pussy-whipped, Brady Bunch version of itself, run by a bunch of robed sissies" - Simon Phoenix as portrayed by Wesley Snipes in Demolition Man natedogg |

Re: welcome to the No Fun Century
People need to stop thinking that they can make a situation better when they try to make decisions for others. The blowback is always worse, since a lot of people like to smoke cigarettes or eat fried food, and will resent attempts to stop them.
"Oh! You're gonna tax my fried food? Well then I'm gonna tax bananas and go to Washington to fight with you over the money!" The delusion that you've thought of a solution that works better than tolerance and an acceptance that humans will make mistakes and life will never be perfect is what accounts for the centralization/statism bias. And mistakes have a habit of putting us in a situation that is not very fun. It's almost like people just truly don't realize that NOT doing this nonsense is an option to us. All we have to do is stop. We're caged by nothing but our own delusions. Compare that to my pet hamster who doesn't have much of a say in the matter, and it's pretty amazing that we do what we do. |

[/ QUOTE ] QFT. as bkholdem said: [ QUOTE ] We are simply talking about leaving people alone to be free in simply living their lives and by reading some of these threads it seems as if almost the whole world would be up in arms to stop that.
