Re: Official Inaugural POG POET LAUREATE - AARONK!!!!
The winning poem in the finals against boj:
Notice not the surrounding swirls of hate. Joining their rage only hardens ones heart. The search for joy must be your fate. Attainment will let you rise apart From the mob who toil and curse Their lot and wish upon you worse. Honest labor brings its own reward Not in mere treasure or stamped gold But like a song with a perfect chord Rising to a crescendo bold. The ache of mind or muscle brings A delight not found in other things. Find for yourself a burning passion Ignoring those who follow only fashion. A dream deferred is a dream that died. A man lives not if he has not tried. If you know you played it right and hard You won’t bemoan the turn of a wrong card. Strive as Sisyphus with rock against your shoulder. Know, that happiness begins not at the top; Rather at the bottom where the boulder Must again be pushed up the unachievable outcrop. Son I know you do not think I’m sage But please take heed of what is on this page. |

Re: Official Inaugural POG POET LAUREATE - AARONK!!!!
Thanks all for voting me. Actually thanks everyone for taking the time to participate or vote. I suppose I should right a poem to celebrate, so I'll start working on something.
Congrats especially to Botjun, I truly believe his final poem was better. Also, thanks to Nich for running the contest and not making the scoring cumulative so I could squeak by in the early rounds. All in all I think a number of poems were superior to any of the ones I wrote, especially StephenH's palindrome. It was a lot more fun trying to write a half-way decent poem then writing business letters, emails and memos. If anyone is up for another writing contest, maybe a Bad Hemingway or a Bulwer-Lytton contest, I'd run it. |
