Best places to play in LA
I am considering moving to the LA area for awhile. Would anyone be kind enough to list some of the best places to play limit holdem in the area? I know nothing about what casinos/clubs are in the area. Ty v much

Re: Best places to play in LA
Depends on what area you live in. Casinos are all in crappy areas. Commerce, Bicycle club, Hustler, Hollywood Park (near the airport) I cant really respond to quality of limit play, but Commerce and Bike are the biggest. The only problem is I'd live as far away as possible from any of these places.

Re: Best places to play in LA
Commerce is commonly referred to as the poker players Mecca--everyone should journey there at least once in their lives. For a friendlier atmosphere (IMO) the Bike is 10 minutes away.
Both areas (Commerce and Bell Garden) are fine. Both are right off freeways. |

Re: Best places to play in LA
I'm barely over 21 by a month, and live in the LA area, very near the Hustler. So I have only visited the Hustler so far in the LA area, although I plan to visit the Bike and Commerce soon also. The only problem is that is more of a commute for me, and I haven't been up for that yet.
I am happy as a regular to the Hustler. The small stakes games are pretty soft, even many of the regulars there are not very good. I play 2/4 limit there. During prime time, they have probably 20 limit tables going and 15 NL tables. They have 50 NL, 100 NL, and 300 NL, but I can't tell you much more than that about the NL there. The most common limit stakes they have are 2/4, 3/6, 4/8, 6/12, and they have kill games for 4/8 and 6/12. Also sometimes I hear over the speakers about 15 limit and 25 limit, so I am sure they have higher stakes games, but I think 25/50 is about as high as it gets there. The only stakes you will find higher than this is when Larry Flytn himself drops in. He was there Saturday night, at a table in the back corner of the NL area surrounded by some security. He was playing w/ Phil Ivey, Barry Greenstein, Mimi Tran, Ted Forrest (I think), and some others which I didn't get close enough to see. I didn't want to be a bother. This was quite a siting for a youngin such as myself! It's a nice cardroom. Not so huge, so if you go there often staff and other regulars will recognize you soon. Staff is all pretty friendly and cool. There's usually a decent selection of small stakes limit games and very rarely a long wait. They also have a players card so you can get comped meals there often. I wish I could report more about other casinos in the area but I haven't visited them yet. |

Re: Best places to play in LA
Comerce. Best cardroom in the world in terms of game quality and quantity.
If that turns you off and you want something more intimate and upscale, Hustler is real nice. Other clubs are(in order of awesomeness down to suckiness) Bike Hawaiian Gardens Hollywood Park Normandie Crystal Park(not recommended) Club Caribe(not recommended) |

Re: Best places to play in LA
I am very anxious to check out the Commerce, as I've watched many TV Tourneys where they mentioned that the Commerce has the biggest poker room in the world. The Hustler is just so much closer to me and I haven't been able to just suck it up and drive an hour to check out this cardroom I'm sure I will love. It is very true the Hustler is quite intimate. Every time I sit down,(I've played there almost 100 hours this month) there is always at least 1 person at the table I recognize. Most often there are 2-3 regulars at the same table, and sometimes even more than half of them are regulars.
Stern, I'm curious what you mean by "game quality" at the Commerce? Do you mean soft competition, or fast moving games, or something else? I'd like to hear more about the players that are found often at the Commerce. Edit: PS- Stern does rule! |

[/ QUOTE ] Unless you are driving during rush hour the commerce is not an hour from hustler. more like 20 minutes. Take the 110N to the 105E to the 710N to the 5S and you are there. Check out mapquest or such for more precise directions (you may not be able to get from the 710N to the 5 S). That sounds like a lot of driving but actually most of those freeway slots are pretty short. |
