1/2 Big Turn Checkraise Semibluff
6 max I raise UTG with AQJ7 with aq of clubs.
effective stacks 200, villain seems average (he turns out to suck later). he calls on the button. Flop J 8 3 rainbow: I pot, he calls. Turn 10, second club: I check, he takes a moment and bets 34 into 43 dollar pot, I checkraise the pot. |

Re: 1/2 Big Turn Checkraise Semibluff
You have lots of viable lines here, and yours is one I would only take if I was playing someone I felt was out of line. Against a straight forward player I might prefer to c/c with the intention of bluffing a pairing river and betting if I get there, and against someone who calls the flop light I could pot here again. I like the last option the least really since if we get raised it's close to all-in and we'll have to let it go.

I don`t see the purpose of check raising that turn.
Explain please. |

Re: 1/2 Big Turn Checkraise Semibluff
My read was that he was unlikely to have q9 here and may fold two pair or something that was slightly ahead or behind my hand, or call with a draw that he decided was good enough to bet the turn.

Re: 1/2 Big Turn Checkraise Semibluff
Hero has a double gutshot and NFD. It's unlikely the turn card made villain's hand. I like the checkraise. Opponent might fold and hero has a good number of outs for the river.

Re: 1/2 Big Turn Checkraise Semibluff
wp, I would always checkraise in this spot. The only times I wouldn't is if villain is a huge nit/nut peddler who wouldn't bet without a straight or if villain is a huge calling station who will be calling the c/r with anything he bet with (and who will most likely paying off if you hit on river.
