Re: I want to go long china
At the moment, there doesn't appear to be a full China index based product, but...
Business Week article on foreign ETFs lists FXI (China 25 Index) and PGJ (Chinese companies listed in the US). Also, you should read Friday's NYT article on the manic Chinese market. GXC (S&P SPDR China) started trading in March. CHNX (similar to PGJ) is also slated to start trading at the end of June, so keep an eye out for that. More interesting reading at ETFTrends China page. |

Re: I want to go long china
There is an ishares china index ETF: link
smells like a bit of a bubble over there with all the taxi drivers and cleaners giving up their jobs and becoming "day traders". Its very reminiscent of what happened in the 99 tech stock bubble. |

Re: I want to go long china
I would not go with China(FXI) right now.
IMHO, A better place would be Germany(EWG) or Canada(EWC). Both are doing about the same return with less risk than China. Big Steve |

[ QUOTE ] Both are doing about the same return [/ QUOTE ] O RLY? Shanghai Composite Index "The index has jumped more than 300 per cent in less than two years" I don't think I need to even look up how Canada and Germany are doing (though in the case of Germany, I know thats a very strong economy now as well), to know they aren't having returns like that... Also: Valuations are currently at 37 times 07 earnings helpful FT page about China [/ QUOTE ] So what should PE be? I don't know exactly what the S&P is at, but it's probably something like 18. So China is around double that. Obviously the two economies are very different, so just by nature of being higher it's not necessarily too high. Is 20 right? 25? 80? 12? e? |

Re: I want to go long china
It's also not only about China P/E being high, but also whether that P/E will ever adjust to what it "should" be. It could remain like that for another 10 years who knows, so saying its too high or too low is irrelevant if you have no idea how/if it may adjust.
