What are everyone's thoughts on the all electronic tables?

A new casino just opened near me and all the poker room has is those new electronic tables, no chips, no dealers, no cards just a screen...

What does everyone this about these tables, to me it just seems like a live version of online poker. I am thinking about playing on them, but just feel like I should save the time and either play online or at my regular boat that has regular poker.

Do you find that people seem to play tighter or looser with no chips in front of them?

Just curuious what everyone thinks...

whole point in going to a casino is to have chips and a dealer and so on, otherwise may as well just play online where I can drink vodka and download porn while playing

As much as some people think this is the future and that electronic tables will take over, I point to blackjack to refute this claim. Blackjack is ideally suited to electronic play, and although there are plenty of video blackjack machines, it doesn't seem that the real tables are being displaced by them at all. Part of the real attraction of going to a casino is interacting with other people and using real cards and chips. I think that will always be there.

The counter-example to this is what has happened to slot machines. Now you just put your card in, push a button, and redeem your printout. Quite a difference from putting coins in, pulling an arm, and hearing the big ka-ching of change falling when you hit. But slot players are mindless dolts, so I don't think it's a good analogy.

I enjoy riffling chips and the feel of cards as much as the next guy, but a ton of money can be saved for both the house and the player by eliminating the dealer. Sooner or later, the drive for money will win out.

Well there were tons of reasons for this. Theft is harder ( no buckets), payouts are faster, no hopper fills, no jams, and paper is much cheaper than producing more coin.

eponymous, I think you are right about some people preferring real cards etc. But, with PokerPro, you can interact with real people, and, I did see one person who had a stack of actual chips, just to riffle. But, I get your point, I think it will come down to personal preferences.

However, I don't think your BJ examples support the argument against e-tables very well. Vid BJ is a very different game. You really pay on the negative EV side on video BJ. At least that was the way it was the last time I made the mistake of playing one, e.g., even money on BJ instead of 3:2, shuffles after every hand, constraints on splits/doubles etc. Prolly at least a negative 2-4% even with decent basic strategy play. So, I think the live BJ tables exist because of the more favorable player rules compared to vid.

If the live tables converted player rules to be the same as vid, I think you would find about one BJ table in each casino, right along side of the wheel of fortune.

I think that if live BJ tables were converted to PokerPro type e-tables, and, if they maintained the most favorable rules to the players, the players might grumble a bit but in the end would not care, just my 2 cents.

You may be right about this. I don't play blackjack very often and wasn't aware of the rule differences.

Refer to the other 20 threads about them over the past 6 months on here. You'll get a ton of different answers/opinions. Lots hate them and would rather play with chips/cards. Some areas that don't have actual table games allowed, the players love them cuz it gets them away from their computer, ect..ect...

I started 4 years ago with the intention of making machines like these, because I could see they were the future, but the business I set up for it morphed along a different path focussing more on the software side. Now these machines are here, they are here to stay. They have too many advantages to fail. I tire of the slow play and constant arguments about mistakes in traditional games, who's turn it is to post, how much the blinds are, who can straddle, acting out of turn etc. etc.

I've not played on one of these machines yet and I'm looking forward to it. They will not suit everyone's preference but I think a lot of people will really come to like them. I believe that most B&M poker in the future will be on electronic tables. Bear in mind that the technology will soon allow massive tourneys joining many casinos simultaneously.
